Chilaquiles

As a traditional Mexican breakfast dish, Chilaquiles consist of tortilla chips sautéed in a savory sauce, finished off with melted cheese.  Taking only about 10 minutes to prepare, this casserole style dish is a tasty change of pace for an unforgettable meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 package La Tapatia stone-ground corn tortilla chips
  • ½ cup of store bought or homemade salsa (optional)
  • 1 can of El Pato tomato sauce (can be found in the “Hispanic Foods” aisle)
  • 1 can regular tomato sauce
  • 1 ½  cups of shredded jack cheese
  • Non-stick spray

 

 Directions

  1. Evenly coat sauté pan with non-stick spray
  2. Warm up pan over low heat.
  3. Add entire package of La Tapatia chips to pan
  4. Stir chips gently for 3-5 minutes, just enough to warm up chips
  5. Combine tomato sauce, El Pato sauce, and salsa in a small bowl and heat in microwave for 30 seconds
  6. Pour mixture over chips and stir to coat
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the coated chips and stir until cheese melts *Chips should have a slightly moistened, crunchy texture.
  8. Serve immediately
